Hiroshi Sugimoto
“Photography is a system of saving memories. It's a time machine, in a way, to preserve the memory, to preserve time.”
Born in 1948, Sugimoto is one of the famous contemporary photographers of our time.
His distinctive photography technics, is, using large scope chambers (4x5 and 8 × 10 inches) and long exposure while exploring abstract concepts. His idea remains on using the simplicity of shape so that we focus our attention on the mechanisms through which we understand the world, in terms of memory and time. This is why is art is often composed of series and repetition of one subject/ object taken at different time of the day, places, countries in order to recall memories.
