Murakami
Born in 1962 in Tokyo, Japan, Takashi Murakami is THE Japanese contemporary art star. He is the king of kitsch “kawaii” in his own original way. He claims to be a Warhol-like figure and a Pop Art heir, but he also communicates a Japanese identity.
He was exhibited in the Château de Versailles in 2010 and has since beat all records in auction houses.
His editions « Kaikai kiki » and his prints are now cult items, his most famous creations are the Flowerball (edited in 2022 as an Nft project), the Dobtopus, Mr Dob, etc

A playful yet slightly unsettling sculpture featuring Murakami’s iconic alter ego, Mr. DOB, in a surreal “melting” pink form. The piece captures the artist’s signature Superflat style but with a deeper, distortion underneath. It reflects Murakami’s ongoing exploration of consumer culture, identity, and the boundary between cute and grotesque.
Mr. DOB was actually Mr. DOB’s first original character, created in the early 1990s. The name “DOB” comes from a Japanese slang phrase “dobojite, dobojite” (どぼじて), loosely meaning “why?”—a subtle hint that behind the cheerful visuals, Murakami is constantly questioning culture and meaning.

A striking and surreal reinterpretation of Mr. DOB, ICE BLUE MELTING DOB presents Takashi Murakami’s iconic alter ego in a liquified, ice-blue form that appears to dissolve before the viewer’s eyes. Blending playful pop aesthetics with subtle psychological tension, the sculpture embodies Murakami’s signature Superflat universe while introducing a sense of instability and transformation beneath its glossy surface.
