A classic work of Nara where sweetness and innocence are depicted in tension with violent, ominous imagery. The gaze of the kid is piercing, aimed straight at the viewer in an almost accusatory confrontation. The backgrounds is nonexistent, leaving the canvas to the characters alone, accompanied by enigmatic or harsh phrases “Fuckin’ politics!”. The contrast between innocence and violence is heightened.

Yoshitomo Nara's STOP THE BOMBS (2024) distills one of the artist's most enduring concerns: the fragile coexistence of innocence and violence.
The phrase "STOP THE BOMBS" is not presented as a political slogan alone, but as a universal plea. Nara has explained that while bombs are exploding somewhere in the world, new lives are also being born at that very moment. This simultaneous awareness of destruction and hope lies at the emotional core of the work, reflecting the artist's lifelong humanist perspective.
