Paul Insect’s love for unconventional materials and experimental combinations is vividly expressed in his latest edition of glass and steel sculptures. Fascinated by the flexibility and potential of glass, Insect teamed up with a Dutch foundry to convert his distinctive splashes of color into glass drips and captivating facial features. The sculptures feature rigid steel legs that support intricately crafted, deep-set glass vessels, each crowned with an ornate, removable lid.
The Sweetie Jar motif, originally appearing in Insect’s solo show Personal Effects, showcased as a series of puppet-like drawings and unique glass sculptures, continues in this new form. “Each of the jars has its own slightly different character – truly handcrafted works,” says Insect. These sculptures highlight his innovative approach, blending vivid glass artistry with robust steel structures to create pieces that are as whimsical as they are meticulously crafted.
